How to Fix Dry, Brittle Hair | 6 Simple Steps
If your hair is feeling dry and brittle, there’s plenty you can do to get it back in shape.Â
All kinds of weather can be a challenge for our hair. For instance, sunshine provides our bodies with much-needed vitamin D. Vitamin D is vital for healthy hair growth. However, on the flip side, sun-drenched days can leave our hair feeling dry and brittle.

It’s not just the sun. In the summer, our hair may be damaged by chlorine or saltwater. Both can be drying. We create more challenges for our hair when we use heated styling tools. The combination of weather and heated styling tools can leave our hair feeling frazzled.
Fix brittle hair with brittle hair treatment, Restore and Shine Hair Masque. It’s the perfect antidote to dry, brittle hair. Learn how to kick start your recovery for smooth, shiny hair.
1. Deep Conditioning is Essential to Fix Brittle Hair
Treat your hair with Restore and Shine Hair Masque once a week, every week. If hair is badly damaged, you can kick start your recovery by using this brittle hair treatment twice a week for the first 2 weeks and then use weekly for maintenance.
Maintaining moisture in hair is not a one-off endeavour. Routine and consistency are vital to getting your hair in the best condition. So taking the time to treat your hair every week is essential maintenance.

2. Give your Hair More Treatment Time, not More Product
When hair is dry and brittle, it needs more treatment time, not more product. To treat brittle hair leave Restore and Shine Hair Masque on for no more than 2 hours if your hair is fine. For thicker hair types, you can leave for 2 hours up to overnight. (you might want to put a micro-fibre towel on your pillow to protect it). Rinse the next morning and style as normal.
3. Wash Hair in Cool Water to Reduce Heat Stress
As heat is a significant factor in causing dry, brittle hair, identity ways to reduce heat stress in your hair care routine. Trying washing your hair using cooler water. The cool water helps to seal the cuticle. When the cuticle (the hair’s outer layer) is sealed, it has a flat, smooth texture. This helps the hair to retain moisture.
4. A Shower Cap to Intensify Deep Conditioning Treatments
Try putting a plastic shower cap over your hair masque. That will generate a gentle heat and intensify the deep conditioning treatment.
5. Blot out Excess Water Before Applying Brittle Hair Treatment
After shampooing and rinsing your hair in cool water use a small microfibre towel to blot the water out of your hair. Blotting out excess water before you apply a hair mask treatment will help hair to absorb more of the conditioning ingredients that smooth and seal the cuticle. If hair is too wet before you apply a hair mask, the product will slip off the hair, reducing the benefit.
6. Use your Fingers to Detangle Your Hair as you Rinse
As you rinse Restore and Shine Hair Masque gently releases tangles. Once rinsed, gently blot the water out of your hair again. Think about your hair like a delicate fabric. Rubbing it will lead to breakage and disrupt the hair’s surface. Once you’ve blotted out the excess water you can wrap your hair in a towel until you are ready for styling.

What is a Moisturising Hair Mask?
Moisturising hair masks are more concentrated than conditioners. Used weekly Restore and Shine Hair Masque complements your routine of washing and conditioning by introducing moisture to the hair’s core whilst smoothing the cuticle to prevent moisture loss.

Shiny hair is hydrated hair. Based on over 35 years of salon experience, I can tell you that quick fixes claiming to leave your hair glossy and shiny may be tempting, but often, they leave hair feeling drier and more lacklustre. The truth is, for hair to be shiny, it must have moisture. I write about all aspects of healthy, shiny hair. From preventing frizzy hair to stopping split ends and styling bob hairstyles I share my experience of how to get the best from hair.
Whether I’m working with hair, writing about hair or developing hair care products I stay true to 3 principles.
1. Less is More
This is a principle I have adhered to all my hairdressing career and it gets the best results. I like to minimise the heat stress to hair from heated styling tools and take a simpler approach to styling. Over working the hair can leave it dry, damaged and flat. A simple approach is the best way to add volume to hair and keep hair looking and feeling smooth and shiny.
2. Hair needs Moisture
Moisture is the foundation of good hair care. Hair needs a routine of deep conditioning to stay frizz free and retain flexibility and strength. When it has moisture, hair elasticity is maintained, making hair easier to style.
3. Great Hair Care is Holistic
Holistic in the context of hair care is about making sure we eat a healthy, balanced diet and that we feed our hair with nourishing products. Maintaining hydration in the body contributes to good quality hair growth. Using nourishing hair products ensures our hair can retain moisture.
You’ll see these principles threaded through my blogs. My goal is to share the simplest tools and techniques to give you easy ways to care for and style your hair at home.
