How to Stop Frizzy Hair After Washing | 6 Simple Steps

Stop Frizzy Hair After Washing | Mid Length

1. Wash Hair in Cool Water to Reduce Frizzy Hair

Stop frizzy hair after washing by rinsing hair in cold or cool water. The cool water helps to seal the cuticle. When the cuticle (the hair’s outer layer) is sealed, it has a flat, smooth texture. This helps the hair to retain moisture and prevents frizz.

2. Blot out Excess Water Before Applying a Hair Mask

After shampooing and rinsing your hair in cool water use a small microfibre towel to blot the water out of your hair. Blotting out excess water before you apply a hair mask will help hair to absorb more of the conditioning ingredients that smooth and seal the cuticle. If hair is too wet before you apply a hair mask, the product will slip off the hair, reducing the benefit.

3. Use a Hair Mask to Prevent Frizz

Restore and Shine Hair Masque is an intensive conditioning treatment designed to get rid of frizz. By getting moisture to the hair’s core and sealing the cuticle this hair mask gives your hair a smooth, shiny frizz-free finish.

Was a little skeptical about this product but so glad I ordered it. It definitely lives up to what it says on the website. No frizz, soft silky hair with a great shine. I was suffering from very dry frizz hair due to dehydrated ends – I’ve only had it for three weeks and used it once a week and every time I use it I get asked what I use to get a great shine! Thank you.

This is the best conditioner I have found for my fine, dry fringe and hairline hair, which normally looks like thistledown after washing. With this conditioner it does what it is told, is super soft and manageable. Nothing else does this. I’m wedded to it.

I was lucky enough to be one of Norris’ salon clients when he was developing the hair masque and feel privileged to have been on that journey. The time he spent getting this awesome product, in my opinion, perfect was well worth it. I have been living in New Zealand for almost six years now and continue to source it whenever I can.
Thanks for an amazing product guys!

4. Detangle Your Hair as you Rinse

As you rinse Restore and Shine Hair Masque gently releases tangles. Once rinsed, gently blot the water out of your hair again. Think about your hair like a delicate fabric. Rubbing it will lead to breakage and disrupt the hair’s surface. Once you’ve blotted out the excess water you can wrap your hair in a towel until you are ready for styling.

5. Add Moisture when Styling to Stop Frizzy Hair after Washing

When hair is still damp, it’s time to start styling. Styling and heat stress can exacerbate frizziness but I see it as an opportunity to add moisture to hair, reducing frizz.

Before styling, use one of my moisture-boosting hair styling sprays. Packed with nourishing ingredients, they are designed to reduce the heat stress that causes frizzy hair. Choose from my volume-boosting Styling Mist for Volume or my shine enhancing Glossy Mist. 2 to 3 spritzes before styling is all you need.

6. Don’t Over-Dry Your Hair

So now hair is prepped and ready to go for styling. Check out my blog on how to blow dry hair for tips on styling your hair. The one piece of advice I have, above all else,  is don’t over-dry your hair. Over-drying hair is a common mistake and one of the biggest causes of frizzy hair. As soon as the hair feels dry to the touch, stop and leave the hair to settle for a couple of minutes before moving into place with your fingers.

Norris has over 35 years of hair know-how. With expertise in all hair types; from dry hair to fine or grey hair, from frizzy hair to damaged or bleached hair, curly hair and afro hair, Norris has created a healthy hair blog to share his expert advice.

I write about all aspects of healthy, shiny hair. From preventing frizzy hair to stopping split ends and styling bob hairstyles I share my experience of how to get the best from hair.

Whether I’m working with hair, writing about hair or developing hair care products I stay true to 3 principles.

1. Less is More

This is a principle I have adhered to all my hairdressing career and it gets the best results. I like to minimise the heat stress to hair from heated styling tools and take a simpler approach to styling. Over working the hair can leave it dry, damaged and flat. A simple approach is the best way to add volume to hair and keep hair looking and feeling smooth and shiny.

2. Hair needs Moisture

Moisture is the foundation of good hair care. Hair needs a routine of deep conditioning to stay frizz free and retain flexibility and strength. When it has moisture, hair elasticity is maintained, making hair easier to style.

3. Great Hair Care is Holistic

Holistic in the context of hair care is about making sure we eat a healthy, balanced diet and that we feed our hair with nourishing products. Maintaining hydration in the body contributes to good quality hair growth. Using nourishing hair products ensures our hair can retain moisture.

You’ll see these principles threaded through my blogs. My goal is to share the simplest tools and techniques to give you easy ways to care for and style your hair at home.

Ogario London is a salon developed range of natural hair care products. Because we are passionate about our products, delivering the best results is at the heart of what we do.
